17th Century Iron Snuffbox
Rectangular in shape with cut corners and slightly domed top and bottom.
It opens on a very good quality hinge and its push button works perfectly with the help of a spring blade inside.
The lid finely engraved with a leaf, perhaps the tobacco leaf?...
Punches visible inside that I was unable to decipher.
The edges of the lid are very thin, almost sharp, the passage of time is clearly there and the patina sincere.
The metal seems almost "velvety" to the touch.
Anecdote: Molière referred to these boxes as "petit grenier tabachique"; which at the time was often called tabaquière.
Please note: This rather modest-looking box is nevertheless difficult to find.
Non-negotiable price.
