This fine-sized cross with relics and paper scrolls under glass dates from the late 18th century. Made of cardboard covered with beautiful gouache paper in shades of brown, gray-green, and ochre, featuring passementerie motifs, it is enclosed by three period glass plates, one of which has a small air bubble. The interior displays a rich work of paper scrolls (thin strips of rolled paper with gilt edges) on a black velvet background. At the center of the cross is the inscription IHS surmounted by a cross, followed by a series of relics and, at the bottom, the Virgin and Child, possibly made of ceramic or glazed plaster. This devotional work contains six relics, each with a legend, in ornate medallions adorned with paper scrolls: Saint Gertrude, Saint Peter, Saint John, Saint Catherine, Saint Caesarius, and Saint Margaret. It retains its original metal suspension ring. The piece is in very good condition, with only a few visible traces of adhesive, which are quite acceptable. Please examine the photos carefully. I have tried to present this beautiful piece as honestly as possible, but reflections that are difficult to avoid sometimes reduce the image quality. Note: it is larger than average. Feel free to contact me for more details. Shipping: to be determined later due to the fragility of the item.
