CHARLES DE BELLE Karel Van Belle (Charles Van Belle) is a Belgian painter born in Ghent in 1884 and died there in 1959. He was a painter and decorator . Training at the Academy of Ghent with J. Van Biesbroeck, J. Delvin and L. Tytgadt. Honorable mention (third prize) at the Prix de Rome in 1913. Painted precious and refined scenes in which were placed mostly mystical female figures, which are a kind of spiritualized representation of an inner dream. This resulted in, among other things, Madonnas, figures of young girls, greyhounds and decorative panels. Also found inspiration in romantic and historical scenes. Extract from the press: “He is the virtuoso of the brush, who always strives to depict an inexhaustible series of dreamlike images born from the poetic knitting of a playwright in love with color. » Works in the museums of Ghent and Tournai.
