Olivier-Maurits Piette (Ghent 1885-1948) studied at the Academy of Figurative Arts in Ghent with J. Van Biesbroeck and Metdepenninghen. He was vice-president of the Art circle "Kunst en Kennis" in Ghent. He created works in white marble and black granite, but also in bronze. In his sculptures, he developed an expressive and stylized working method. He made decorative panels, busts and statues: heads of Christ, muses, nudes... He was also a renowned medalist. In 1914, he exhibited for the first time at the Brussels Triennial Salon. He then exhibited at the "Salon de sculpture contemporaine" in Paris; in 1933, at the Ghent Exhibition, Citadel Park. For the 1935 World's Fair, he collaborated with the sculptor Wasterlain for the decoration of two flower boxes for the entrance to the Furniture Gallery. In 1950, a retrospective of his work took place in the "De Pan" hall in Ghent.
