Bronze “miss Helyett” By A.gaudez – Late 19th Century
Artist: Gaudez
Beautiful and large proof with brown patina by Adrien Etienne Gaudez (1845-1902) representing Miss Helyett walking along a mountain path. Operetta in 3 acts by Maxime Boucheron and Edmond Audran, Miss Helyett was performed for the first time on November 12, 1890 at the Bouffes-Parisiens. As she walks alone in the mountains like every day, she falls into a ravine. Held narrowly by a branch hanging from her petticoat, she is saved by a passerby. This sculpture by Gaudez depicts her dressed in an outfit typical of the Belle Époque. She is wearing a hat and dressed in a voluminous bodice and drape. She holds in her hand a large stick adorned with a knot and climbs on rocks. Charming and bucolic, this timeless work will charm you with its many details and its quality of execution.
