In 1918, Jean Piaubert began painting and enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux. To earn a living, he worked in a theater set design workshop. From 1920 to 1921, he completed his military service in Bordeaux. From 1922 to 1930, Piaubert moved to Paris. His beginnings were difficult. He attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and various other studios in Montparnasse. At this time, his painting was imbued with classicism. Paul Poiret took an interest in his early works and commissioned him to create fabric designs, theater costumes, and dress designs for the courts of Spain and England. During this challenging period, Piaubert met Friesz, Dufy, and Derain.
In 1932, he had his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Zak.
Works held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Paris; Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Strasbourg; Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux; Museum of Grenoble; Museum of Fine Arts of Caen; Ingres Museum, Montauban.
Numerous national and international exhibitions: Tokyo, New York, São Paulo, etc.
