Jingasa - Ichimon-gasa Edo Period - 18-19th Century - Japan
Authentic Edo period Jingasa, flat shaped samurai headdress called Ichimon-Gasa woven in wood covered with black lacquer depicting the gold kamon, a heraldic badge in the shape of bamboo leaves “Gomaizasa”. The helmet is decorated in gold with a “tehen kanamono”, a copper ornament decorated at the top. The interior is red lacquered. In excellent condition for the age, a beautiful copy with a chin bar, called “ago-himo” (not original). Diameter: 36 cm Height: 10.5 cm Reference S1868 Provenance: The Jingasas for sale belonged to a private collection to the directors of Bapty & Co, Mark & Peter Dineley, recognized for being the largest suppliers of arms and armor for uses in theater and cinema.
