Toppai Jingasa Edo Period - 18-19th Century - Japan
Authentic Edo period Jingasa, conical Samurai headdress, known as Toppai Jingasa in wood with black lacquer on the outside, depicting the gold lacquered kamon which represents the “Tachibana” or “Hikone Tachibana” clan. The interior is lacquered in red and black. In very good state of preservation, some minor gaps at the ends. The interior with zabuton, a protective cushion for the head and a chin bar, called ago-himo, is present but not attached to the helmet. Diameter: 37.5 cm Height: 9 cm Provenance: The Jingasas on sale belonged to a private collection to the directors of Bapty & Co, Mark & Peter Dineley, recognized for being the largest suppliers of weapons and armor for the uses in theater and cinema.
