French School 1870/80: "the Dreaming Shepherdes"
French school 1870/80 "The dreaming shepherdess" oil on heavy paper 16 X 22.5 cm, mounted in a gilded frame "barbizon" 34 X 39 cm. When I bought it, mounted in a 5mm baguette frame and all dusty, this painting did not look like much, but once restored and re-framed, what do you think? I thought this young person was a shepherd, but the skirt made me realize the obvious: unless it is a kilt, it is a shepherdess who dreams lying in the grass while graze his animals ...
