French Mid-18th Century Gold Necessaire.
A gold case with travel essentials. The body of the case includes a decoration in rocaille "cartouche"in which stand out on a gold background amati young women receiving presents; garlands and doves; of putti. The upper part of the case is decorated with a dog symbolizing fidelity and a peacock the ephemeral character of pleasures. Inside the case, a kit is kept. It includes: a pair of steel and gold scissors, a gold rocaille knife, a needle, a spoon, a stylus and an ivory leaf.
