Artist: Dominiquin (domenico Zampieri, 1581-1641)
Judith showing the head of Holofernes to the people
Against the blood test bearing at the bottom and in the center the mention "Domenichino".
Based on the fresco by Dominicino (Domenico Zampieri, 1581-1641) in the Cappella Bandini, Church of San Silvestro al Quirinale in Rome.
The Dominicino (Domenico Zampieri, 1581-1641) is one of the great Roman artists of the 17th century known for his luminous classicizing painting and for his prestigious sets of frescoes.

The theme is taken from the Book of Judith (14: 1 to 5) belonging to the Old Testament. The episode represented is that of the triumph of Judith after she had cut off the head of the Assyrian general Holofernes who was besieging his city of Bethulia.
