Renefer (1879-1957), Landscape, Banks Of The Seine
He actively participated in all the Parisian salons for over 40 years.
He exhibited alongside Lebourg, Marquet, Signac, Bonnard, Cassatt, Lebasque, Vlaminck, Luce, and many others.
Renefer was fond of the reflections of the changing sky, the swirling currents and the coming and going of boats, landscapes in the rain, floods, canals—in short, anything aquatic—to the point that he was awarded the title of "Painter of Air and Water." But he also painted city streets, the lights of Paris, dark suburbs, and rural landscapes.
A discreet painter who scarcely sought fame, he devoted his entire life to art.
Besides painting, he was also a highly sought-after illustrator.
His works are held in numerous museums, both in France and abroad, and several exhibitions have been dedicated to him.
A catalogue raisonné of his work is currently being prepared.
