Russian Icon, 18th Century

Bordered in black, this icon depicting a Madonna and Child has all the delicacy common to Orthodox icons, the most famous examples of which are Russian. Almost always small in size and painted on wood, these pious images borrowed their style from Byzantine tradition since the 12th century. Ours is no exception to the rule with its sober lines and its angular and rigid draperies. Probably, this 18th century icon of the Virgin and Jesus adorned, as was tradition, the interior of a Russian home.

Very good condition but we draw attention to the gaps in the frame.
