Large Estampe "the Cult Of Negres" Circa 1800
A vision of exoticism that makes us smile today (a little yellow). On the outskirts of a village, black people prostrate themselves by bringing offerings before an idol who looks more like the Devils of European Folk Art than anything of the First Arts! Exotic vegetation, elephant resembling a sprouted potato, rooster pig and sheep in the huts give us an idea of the design of Africa at the time ... Large leaf stretched by the edges on a cardboard 42.5 X 51 cm, image 34 X 45 cm, engraved by Nicolas Colibert (1750-1806) with chisel, wheels and etching on a drawing of Brothers (?). Rednesses mainly in margins. Framing label "Duprés Young gilder rue d'Angivilliers in Paris.
