ElieHenri Dumont (19th/20th century): “Pondside in the Landes,” oil on canvas, 73 x 100 cm, circa 1910–1920, damage and restorations, craquelure across the entire painting.
I have chosen to present this large painting to you just as I found it, in itsoriginal condition, though the brilliance and luminosity of the composition givea glimpse of what it will look like once it has been prepared.
The palette, blending bronze green with Veronese green, the myriad shades of the sky composed of small, blended multicolored brushstrokes, and this clearing among the pines overlooking the tranquil expanse will captivate lovers of the Landes region.
While there isn’t much information available about this artist from Bordeaux, his style is reminiscent of another artist from the Gironde region, with its slightly Divisionist touch and palette: Pierre Gaston Rigaud.
