Daum Frères – Large Art Nouveau “eucalyptus” Vase – Circa 1913 – 42 Cm
Important Art Nouveau vase made of acid-etched multilayered glass, from the “Eucalyptus” series by Daum Nancy, dating from around 1913.
Developed around 1912–1913, this late naturalistic design by Daum was used for both vases and lighting fixtures.
The multilayered glass, acid etching, and color contrasts evoke eucalyptus branches silhouetted against the warm light of a setting sun.
The Nancy Museum of Fine Arts houses a lamp featuring a eucalyptus flower design dating from around 1913 (inventory no. 83.1.50.1–2).
Standing 42 cm tall, this tall, slender vase perfectly illustrates Daum’s technical mastery and his naturalistic and atmospheric approach characteristic of this period.
