Arman – Homage To Yves Klein, 1993 – Ikb Violin Under Plexiglas – Hc 3/14
ARMAN (1928–2005)
Homage to Yves Klein, 1993
IKB blue pigment applied to a cut-out wooden violin, presented in its original transparent Plexiglas case.
Signed and inscribed HC 3/14.
Dimensions: 66 × 32 × 22 cm
This work is part of an edition comprising 99 numbered copies, supplemented by 14 artist’s proofs, EA, and only 14 non-commercial copies, HC.
This copy, numbered HC 3/14, is therefore not part of the commercial series of 99 copies, but rather part of a separate group of fourteen non-commercial proofs. Traditionally, these copies were reserved for the artist, the publisher, those involved in the production, exhibitions, or archives.
This HC group is thus seven times smaller than the regular numbered edition.
The work combines two essential elements of Arman’s universe: the violin, a recurring motif in his work, and the principle of cutting, through which the artist transforms and recomposes manufactured objects.
The blue pigment is a direct reference to Yves Klein, whom Arman met in Nice in 1947 while practicing judo. The two artists maintained a significant personal and artistic relationship before helping to found the Nouveau Réalisme movement in 1960.
With its dimensions of 66 cm in height and 22 cm in depth, this work possesses a truly sculptural presence. The Plexiglas allows viewers to observe the cut-out violin while maintaining the clarity of its silhouette.
The work is referenced in the Arman Studio archives under the number:
APA#8400.92B.086
According to the A.R.M.A.N. Foundation catalog dedicated to the complete edition of Hommage à Yves Klein, the multiple was published by Tête à Tête, Paradise Valley, United States, and produced by Universel Litho, Paris.
Condition:
The work is presented in its original Plexiglas slipcase.
The Plexiglas has a few very fine surface scratches, consistent with normal handling and display. Slight signs of rubbing are visible on the back of the violin, likely caused by slight movement of the work inside the slipcase.
The blue pigmented surface visible on the front remains perfectly preserved, with no missing areas or noticeable deterioration.
Overall, the piece is in very good condition.
