An imposingPiedmontese (Italy) armoire in solid walnut, dating from the late 17th centuryand the Louis XIV period, distinguished by its strong architectural structureand refined decoration of raised mouldings.Thetwo-door front, retaining its original hardware, is divided into three tiers ofpanels framed by elaborate projecting mouldings, with stepped details andshaped corner joints creating a lively interplay of planes. In the centralpanels, the rectangular framework encloses a shaped outline, introducing asense of movement into the otherwise rigorous geometric composition. Flankingthe doors, broad uprights are decorated with elongated recessed panels withshaped ends, likewise arranged in three tiers. The same attention to detailextends to the sides, each divided into three framed panels, ensuring that thepiece is equally attractive when viewed from an angle.Ofparticular note is the boldly projecting cornice, enriched with a sequence ofmodillions carved with foliate motifs, which emphasise the architecturalcharacter of the piece. The richly detailed upper section is balanced by amoulded base resting on bracket feet.Theinterior, lined in a light-coloured fabric in good condition, features a broadupper shelf and a vertical partition separating a full-height compartment froma section fitted with several shelves, an arrangement that can be modified ifrequired. This configuration allows the piece to serve either as a wardrobe oras a spacious pantry cupboard, combining the appeal of antique furniture withthe practical requirements of contemporary living. The cleanvolumes and geometric mouldings give the armoire a remarkably modern appeal, making it equally suited to traditional settings and contemporary interiors, where it can provide a striking focal point. Its well-balanced proportions anddimensions seldom encountered on the market, together with its elaboratedecorative details and the warm colour of the walnut, lend the piece animposing presence while combining decorative appeal with practicalfunctionality.Thestructure can be fully dismantled, facilitating transport and installation, even in rooms with restricted access.
