18th Century, Pair Of Demi-lune Neoclassical Italian Lacquered Wood Chest Of Drawer

18th Century, Pair of Demi-Lune Neoclassical Italian Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawer

This pair of elegant drawers was made in the Piedmontese area (north of Italy) in the neoclassical period, second half of the eighteenth century. The wooden structure is lacquered in shades of blue-green and ivory with reserves and golden details. Demi lune shaped, they have a shaped marble top near the uprights, two front drawers and, laterally, open compartments divided by a shelf. The front of the drawers and the uprights, lacquered in blue, are surrounded by gold reserve and lacquered ivory bands. The open compartments are lacquered in light blue and surrounded by an ivory band with golden profile. The underfloor band has a molded and golden reserve. The four truncated cone legs, fluted and lacquered in light blue and ivory, originate from a circular gilded wooden element and end with a sculpted acanthus leaf tip and a golden and lacquered round element in light blue. The drawers are equipped with a lock and circular handles in finely chiseled bronze with neoclassical motifs in bow and gold. This pair of drawers, small in size and with an unusual design with open compartments, refined and very elegant, can be placed in pairs or individually in different environments, such as entrances and corridors, living rooms and studios, bedrooms.  Pleasant if combined with antique furniture, they are equally suitable in contexts characterized by modern furniture. Restoration of lacquering in the 19th century.
