19th Century Pair of French Large Gilt Bronze and Porcelain Candelabras
Dimensions: cm H 82 x W 50 x D 34. Base 35 x 34 cm

This pair of large candelabras was made in France in the 19th century from chased and gilded bronze, adorned with heron figures and floral decorations in hand-painted polychrome porcelain. Executed in the Louis XV style, they feature a pierced gilded bronze base with rocaille motifs, consisting of scrolls and phytomorphic elements. On the base rest the porcelain heron figures, around which branches with gilded bronze leaves extend, adorned with various polychrome porcelain flowers. The three branches end in leaf bobeches and candle holders shaped like buds in bronze. The design and structure of these three-flame candelabra, with phytomorphic arms on a curved base, derive from rocaille models of the Louis XV style, onto which porcelain from the Meissen factory were mounted, to which the flowers and herons clearly refer. Highly decorative and pleasing in size and ornamentation, these candelabras can be displayed, even as sculptures, on chests of drawers, consoles, gueridons, and small tables, even in the center of rooms, viewed from different angles. With the addition of one or more lampshades, they can also be adapted into lamps.
