Artist: Roger Montané
Oil on canvas by Roger Montané (1916–2002), signed at the bottom center.
The work is titled "Geneviève au Sacré-Cœur" and features vivid colors. Roger Montané was a French painter and engraver, born in Bordeaux on February 21, 1916, who passed away in Castelmaurou, near Toulouse, on July 14, 2002. After training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, he continued his artistic development in Paris under the tutelage of the painter André Lhote. His body of work is characterized by a rich, figurative style in which light, landscapes, scenes of everyday life, and human figures play a central role. A traveler with a global perspective, he drew inspiration from his many stays in Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, the United States, and Iran. Well-regarded within the art world, he served as president of the Salon d'Automne in 1966 and was appointed "Peintre de la Marine" (Official Painter to the French Navy) in 1979.
His work—valued for its sensitivity, luminous palette, and expressive power—has been featured in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad, as well as in retrospectives at several museums.
