He trained as an architect and taught drawing for five years at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Algiers. In 1878, he returned to France and studied with Jean Paul Laurens, he exhibited with the Impressionists in 1879 and 1880, and at the Salon from 1883 to 1895.
