Period: 20th century / 1950s (Dated 1955 on the back)

Style: Post-Impressionism / Lower Normandy School

Condition: Excellent original condition, presented in its period frame

A superb and luminous oil on panel (Isorel) depicting a bucolic scene of children sitting in the shade of tall trees in the heart of a sunlit field under a cloudy summer sky. Details of the composition:

In the foreground, a group of young children is sitting or crouching in tall, textured grass rendered in vivid shades of green and yellow.

The figures are wearing colorful clothing, including a red garment or head covering for one of them.

The scene is dominated by large, gnarled tree trunks beneath which they are resting.

The background opens onto a countryside or meadow landscape beneath a dynamic sky covered with large white and blue clouds.

The brushwork is powerful, generous, and highly textured, executed with a vibrant palette of greens, sunny yellows, and intense blues—characteristic of the artist’s Post-Impressionist style.
