Rare Directoire Clock By J.s. Deverberie
Artist: Jean-simon Deverberie
A rare clock in gilded bronze and patinated bronze depicting Josephine (Napoleon I’s first wife); based on a design by Jean-Simon Deverberie (1764–1824).
The white enamel dial is signed “Arnauld” in Nancy.
Dating from the Directoire period, this is a French piece from around 1795.
Jean-Simon Deverberie was among the most prominent Parisian bronze casters of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
He was a designer, bronze castor, and extremely prosperous merchant, well known for his “Pendule au Sauvage” and “Pendule l’Afrique” series.
Our clock is of extraordinary quality and is in excellent condition (uncleaned and unrestored!), though the clock mechanism requires cleaning by a clockmaker.
Dimensions:
Clock with globe : H 53 cm
Clock: H 46.5 cm , W 33.5 cm , D 10.5 cm
A true collector’s clock !
