A sumptuous Louis XV-style pedestal table in marquetry and gilded bronze, attributed to the workshop of François Linke.
This pedestal table is in good condition and of superior quality, typical of this renowned cabinetmaker.
François Linke (1855–1946) was undoubtedly the most important Parisian cabinetmaker of his time.After beginning as an apprentice in his hometown of Pankraz in Bohemia, Linke arrived in Paris in 1875 and founded his own workshop in 1881 at 170 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine.
By around 1900, he was at the helm of a full-fledged company employing ninety workers!
Although François Linke had, in his early days, a private clientele—sometimes even renowned figures—he spent many years working in the shadow of well-known cabinetmaking firms.
This is why most of these “early works” were not only unsigned—to avoid revealing the origin of the furniture to the clients of those firms—but may also bear stamps other than “F. Linke.”
