Dancing Faun
An antique-style copy of the famous Dancing Faun, a masterpiece of ancient sculpture discovered in 1830 in the famous “House of the Faun” in Pompeii and now housed at the Archaeological Museum of Naples. Created in the second half of the 19th century, this work is part of the great tradition of artistic bronzes produced by Italian workshops—particularly those in Naples and Rome—to meet the demand of cultured European travelers embarking on the “Grand Tour.” The satyr is captured in the midst of a movement that is at once graceful and frenzied; his torso is thrown back, while his face expresses a lively, Bacchic spirit.
