German Military Surgical Saw
Folding surgical saw, issued to the German military medical service during World War I. This instrument is a major historical and technological artifact of early 20th-century field surgery. The object is distinguished by its characteristic handle, consisting of two halves that serve as a case: when the instrument is closed, the two halves come together, completely covering the serrated edge of the blade. The “D.R.G.M.” patent mark is clearly stamped on the body. The blade features a double row of regular, sharp teeth, typical of amputation instruments designed to withstand intensive use under the harsh conditions of field hospitals.
