Pair Of Terracotta Vases From Signa – Early 20th Century

An important pair of terracotta vases from Signa, made in the early 20th century in the finest tradition of the renowned Tuscan workshop. These two imposing decorative urns stand out for their rich ornamentation and elegant neoclassical iconography, inspired by archaeological and Renaissance models.

The bodies of the vases feature refined reliefs depicting mythological scenes and classical figures set against lakeside landscapes, accompanied by seahorses and marine creatures. The handles are shaped like fantastical masks, while the rich vegetal frieze featuring vine shoots and grape clusters runs along the upper rim, lending the piece as a whole a sense of great compositional balance.

The fluted base, clearly inspired by classical design, harmoniously supports the imposing upper bowl, embellished with phytomorphic motifs and finely carved details. The quality of the modeling and the monumental proportions make this pair particularly suitable for prestigious entrances, historic gardens, period villas, or important reception areas.

The Signa workshops, active since the 19th century and internationally renowned, played a leading role in the production of artistic terracotta pieces intended for both interior design and the decoration of parks and noble residences, distinguishing themselves for their high sculptural quality and fidelity to classical models.
