St. Francis Of Assisi In Meditation – Oil On Canvas, 17th Century
A striking 17th-century painting depicting St. Francis of Assisi in meditation, clad in the traditional Franciscan habit, with his gaze turned upward and his hands clasped in prayer.
The composition, characterized by intense Baroque-style chiaroscuro, depicts the saint alongside the Crucifix and a skull—symbols of Christ’s Passion and the transience of earthly life. The rendering of the face is particularly expressive, illuminated by a warm light emerging from the dark background.
