18th-century Gilded Wooden Barometer
A superb Louis XVI-style barometer-thermometer made of carved and gilded wood, circa 1780–1790.
The decoration, of great finesse, features a crowning trophy with a globe, a square, and a scroll, surrounded by laurel and olive branches. The lyre-shaped body is adorned with twisted cords and a bow of cascading ribbons. A basket of flowers on a fluted pedestal completes the composition at the base.
Signed Antoine Appiani
