"nomos" Table By Norman Foster For Tecno, Custom-made From Zimbabwean Granite, Italy
The Nomos table, designed by Norman Foster (Foster Associates) and produced by Tecno in Milan. This piece is a special order, featuring a tabletop made of black Zimbabwean granite—a dense, fine-grained stone with a deep polish—instead of the usual glass top.
The tabletop rests on the model’s iconic structure: chrome-plated steel legs connected by crisscrossing bracing bars, whose technical aesthetic evokes Foster’s high-tech architecture. The contrast between the lightness of the base and the mineral mass of the granite gives this table a real presence.
The Nomos is one of the great classics of 1980s Italian design and is featured in the collections of several museums. The stone versions are rare, as they were made to order.
