Second Half Of The 18th Century Louis XVI Inlaid Writing Desk
Refined and unique writing desk, finely veneered and
inlaid with walnut, walnut burl, and various fruitwoods, in the style of the
renowned cabinetmaker Maggiolini. Designed as a freestanding piece, it is
finished and inlaid on the back as well, making it suitable for placement in
the center of a room. The inlays, executed with extraordinary sophistication, feature
geometric motifs and floral garlands, creating evocative plays of light and
shadow across the different woods. The piece rests on tapered,
truncated-pyramidal legs, a hallmark of the period, and includes seven drawers
(one centrally located), ergonomically designed for storage, and can be opened
using various pulls and locks made of lost-wax cast bronze. This writing desk
exudes class and elegance, lending a touch of refinement and historic charm to
any interior. Manufactured in Piacenza (Emilia-Romagna), dating to the
Neoclassical/Louis XVI period, second half of the 18th century.
