Art Deco Plaster Sculpture Of The Immaculate Virgin Mary, Signed By Bacci, Early 20th Century

Artist: Bacci
Art Deco plaster sculpture of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, signed by Bacci, early 20th century

Created during the Art Deco period (1910–1939), known for its high-quality geometric design, this Virgin Mary is a perfect example.

Radiating a poignant realism, this large-scale Virgin is crafted from renowned artistic plaster, dating from the so-called “Roaring Twenties,” a period when, despite the complex economic climate between the two world wars, workshops and factories flourished in the realm of fine craftsmanship.

This Virgin dates from a time when the European population envisioned a positive utopia, far removed from political wars and conflicts of interest. She stands proudly over the world, crushing evil (the serpent) under her foot, and opening her arms to the faithful, like the Mother of the World. She is signed by Bacci, a French company renowned for its religious artifacts.
