Inkwell In ‘blue-john’ Fluorite - England, Derbyshire - 19th Century
A rare and elegant 19th-century English inkwell, beautifully crafted from Blue John fluorite, a highly prized semi-precious stone traditionally quarried in Derbyshire, England.
The inkwell features a rectangular body with bevelled corners, finely carved and polished from a magnificent piece of Blue John fluorite, displaying exceptional natural veining in rich shades of deep purple, violet, and translucent white.
At the centre is an ink reservoir fitted with a patinated brass mount and a hinged lid, topped with a beautifully polished Blue John fluorite finial.
The striking natural patterns of the stone, combined with the quality of the carving and polishing, give this piece a particularly refined and decorative appearance.
