Silver Pitcher, France, Empire Period.
Silver pitcher from the Empire period, resting on three claw feet with palmette-decorated mounts.
The body, shaped like an ovoid baluster, is accented at the shoulders by a frieze of water leaves. The zoomorphic spout ends in a finely chiseled horse’s head. The tall, flared neck is edged with a frieze of heart-shaped motifs. The side handle, made of wood and elegantly carved in the shape of a crook, is attached at its lower end to a clasp adorned with an antique-style female mask. The hinged lid is topped with a knob shaped like a fruit bud.
