Gold-plated And Gray Louis-philippe Mirror With A Pediment
This large mirror, known as “neo-troubadour” style because of its design evoking the mythical creatures of the Middle Ages, looks absolutely stunning with its pediment—featuring two “facing” dragons!!—framing a gilded coat of arms and accented with antlers and leaves. It has been restored in our workshop and repainted in shades of gray and gold to better complement modern interiors, while retaining a classic touch that alone can impart that distinctive character of authenticity and elegance. Its antique glass, adorned with subtle pitting, will seal you off on its undeniable charm.
(The architect Violet-le-Duc drew upon the entire decorative vocabulary of the Middle Ages to restore numerous monuments, giving them an appearance almost more authentic than the original (the magnificent Château de Pierrefond is one of the finest examples).) Victor Hugo, with his novel *Notre-Dame de Paris*, would bring this period back into the spotlight, and Romanticism would lend its name to an era whose past glory—that of the “Little Corporal”—would continue to inspire generations for a long time to come.
