Double Vase — Chimú Culture — Peru — 12th–15th Century
Vase with two globular bellies and a bridge-shaped handle. A small animal figure on the straight neck. The dark surface features geometric compartments with fish motifs. Black pottery is common in Chimú productions. This coloration was achieved through firing in a reducing atmosphere. The form consisting of two joined vessels is more broadly part of the Andean ceramic repertoire.
Date: between the 12th and 15th centuries,
Minor wear, small chips—from an accident—and a small chip on the neck; the bird’s beak has been reattached.
