"Bourg-en-bresse, 1776. Chevalier Chossat De Montessuy-vente "
Notarial deed (12 pages) executed in Bourg-en-Bresse by Charles-Joseph Chossat, Knight, Lord of Montessuy de la Cour du Dau (1740-1806), acting for himself and as agent for Knight Joseph-Jacques de Tricaud (1723-1788), former captain in the Lyon regiment, Knight of the Order of Saint Louis. The deed records the sale of several real estate and personal property properties belonging to Madame Dutour, wife of the Lord of Tricaud, to Master Jean-Bernard-Philibert Quinet, lawyer at the court and residing in Bourg (1732-1792). The protagonists are documented: =>> Charles-Joseph Chossat, who married Marguerite Hubert de Saint-Didier (1749-?) in 1767. Their portrait by the painter Donatien Nonotte is held in a private collection (see photo at the end of the slideshow). He owned the Château de Montplaisant and the Château de la Rochette in the Rhône. He was a descendant of Jean Chossat, secretary to the king in 1637. He died in Pressburg (Bratislava, Slovakia) in 1806, as an émigré. The sale of his confiscated property amounted to seven million gold francs. =>>Joseph-Jacques de Tricaud (1723-1788), from a family of artillery officers, was a captain in the Lyonnais Regiment (Infantry), a Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis. He married Marie Aimée Dutour-Vuilard on August 24, 1754, in Bourg-en-Bresse.=>> Quinet, the buyer, came from a family of lawyers and treasurers of the hospitals of Bourg-en-Bresse since the 17th century. He himself was treasurer of the charitable works and hospitals, a qualified lawyer in 1756, and later mayor of Bourg-en-Bresse. He is the grandfather of Edgar Quinet (1803-1875), the famous historian. A note, with documentary references, will be given to the buyer.
