Bourgogne, considering how advantageous it is for a Town to count among itsto count among its burghers persons whose qualities of mind and heart, and the rankin society (...), we have unanimously deliberated to grant Mᵉ Claude joseph Muyard Seigneur de Crenans, a bourgeoisieletter of bourgeoisie for him and his posterity to be born, to enjoy the privileges, franchises,immunities and prerogatives attributed to the title of bourgeois, (...)
The territory of Crenans was part of a larger seigniorial entity, the bailliage of Moirans/Saint Claude. The title "seigneur de Crenans" should therefore be interpreted with caution: it could refer to a small fief held by an individual. There were Muyard families in Crenans in the second half of the 18th century.
