Neo-Impressionist school. Paris of yesteryear. Unsigned oil on panel, "The Fireboats near Les Invalides."
On the back of the mahogany panel is an old label with a handwritten attribution to the painter Barritz. 25 x 32 cm. French School.
The painter Barritz was active in the late 19th century and the very early 20th century. He specialized in urban and river landscapes, particularly views of Paris, the banks and quays of the Seine, and scenes of ports or industrial sites. He worked extensively on wood panels. His thick, generous brushwork is fully in the tradition of independent artists such as Armand Guillaumin (1841–1927), Maximilien Luce (1858–1941), and Paul Signac (1863–1935).
