Carlo Dolci Workshop Of "christ The Redeemer"
Artist: Carlo Dolci Atelier De
Carlo Dolci workshop. Oil on canvas, "Christ the Redeemer," unsigned. 48 x 38 cm. Italian School. Carlo Dolci (1616-1686). A pupil of Jacopo Vignali (1592-1664), he applied himself, following his master's example, to imitating simple nature. He took the greatest care in finishing even the smallest details and in giving a true and touching expression to the sentiments inspired in his subjects by piety. The overall tone of his coloring is admirably suited to his subjects (sources: Bénézit, Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors). Many museums hold his works. In the Dolci workshop in Florence, the models created by the father were often used by his pupils, and Agnese Dolci (1659-1719), his daughter, was the closest to his style. Our painting is a fine example of the Dolci style, where the treatment of flesh tones is distinguished by a highly refined, enamel-like finish, giving the subject a porcelain-like appearance. Furthermore, the depiction of the chalice is exceptionally well executed, with the gadroons and chasing rendered with almost photographic clarity. 19th-century patinated wooden frame. Old relining. Good condition. 2200 euros.
