Joos Van Craesbeeck attributed to. Oil on canvas "L'ivresse joyeuse" unsigned. 41 X 32,8 cm. Flemish school.
Joos Van Craesbeeck (1605-1660) is a worthy artist due to the fact that he was a painter and baker or baker and painter depending on his pecuniary needs and also because he was a pupil of Adriaen Brouwer (1605-1638) with whom he shared the dive bouteille as much as his pretty, beloved wife.
Craesbeeck's early style was heavily influenced by Brouwer's art, and both painters often frequented the same cabarets from which they drew inspiration. However, his Flemish ancestry is revealed in his luminous, colorful range. His late works are characterized by heavy forms and garish colors.
Our painting is a perfect example of this fashion for bambochade paintings very much in vogue in the Flemish and Dutch Schools of the 17th century. These works often sought to depict with realism, and sometimes a touch of derision, everyday life, excess and popular amusements.
Many museums preserve his works.
