Luciano Frigerio (attributed To) – Pair Of Brutalist Lamps In Bronze And Brass – Italy, Circa
An elegant and rare pair of Italian table lamps from the 1970s, attributed to designer Luciano Frigerio (1928–1999), a leading figure in Italian design during the second half of the 20th century.
Each lamp rests on a cubic base made of cast gilded metal, likely brass, featuring a remarkable Brutalist relief design composed of irregular, organic-looking recesses.
The sculptural power of the bases contrasts harmoniously with the understated elegance of the square bases and cylindrical brass shafts.
The treatment of the material, the Brutalist surfaces, and the geometric volumes are characteristic of Italian Brutalist design from the 1960s–1970s.
A pair of virtually identical pieces is currently on display at the Karl Kemp Antiques gallery in New York, attributed to Luciano Frigerio.
