19th-century Flemish School – *the Kitchen*, After David Teniers The Younger
A beautiful oil on canvas depicting a lively kitchen interior, based on a work by David Teniers the Younger (1610–1690).
The composition features several figures in a rustic interior: in the foreground, a man dressed in red sits by the hearth, cleaning mussels, while a woman busies herself in the kitchen in the background.
The scene is particularly rich in detail: numerous terracotta pots, a cauldron, utensils, a basket of fruits and vegetables, cauliflower, squash, and other vegetables arranged in the foreground. This abundance of decorative elements lends the composition great charm and depth.
A work from the 19th-century Flemish school, executed in the tradition of 17th-century genre scenes after David Teniers the Younger.
Oil on antique canvas, with a beautiful network of age-related crackle and a distinct textural quality. Presented in a gilded frame.
An old label from the Parisian gallery Vandevoorde, 22 rue Vignon, Paris, is visible on the back of the frame.
