Mathurin Moreau – “amour En Vendange” – Large Gilded Bronze – 56 Cm

A significant bronze sculpture with a golden patina, signed by Mathurin Moreau (1822–1912), titled “Amour en Vendange.”

The composition depicts an elegant young grape-harvester holding a bunch of grapes, accompanied by a winged Cupid, standing beside a vine laden with foliage and clusters of grapes.

Exquisitely crafted sculpture, particularly in the rendering of the faces, the drapery, Cupid’s wings, and the numerous details of the vine and fruit.

The bronze rests on a substantial stepped pedestal.

Incised signature “Math. Moreau” on the terrace.

Original cartouche on the front bearing the inscription:

“AMOUR EN VENDANGE”
“by Math. Moreau – Medal of Honor at the Salon”

Mathurin Moreau (1822–1912), a renowned 19th-century French sculptor, was notably awarded a Medal of Honor at the 1897 Salon.

Hollow bronze with a beautiful antique golden patina, showing some slight wear and variations in the patina consistent with its age.
