Auguste Nicolas Cain 1822–1894 France

Bronze sculpture "Ibis Hunting Frogs" by the famous 19th-century French sculptor Auguste Nicolas Cain (1822–1894).
Auguste Nicolas Cain achieved great mastery and expressiveness in animal sculpture. His most important work is the monument to Duke Charles of Brunswick, erected in Geneva in 1879: a magnificent structure crowned by a bronze equestrian statue of the duke and adorned with colossal figures of two lions and two griffins carved from red marble. Other famous works by Auguste Nicolas Cain include the bronze compositions *Lion and Lioness* (1854) in Odessa, *Tiger Trampling a Crocodile* (1873), and *Two Lions Attacking a Wild Boar* (1882) in the Tuileries Garden, *Nubian Lion and Its Prey* (1870) in the Luxembourg Gardens, and others.
