Monkey, Bronze Sculpture After Thierry Van Rijswijck flag

Object description :

"Monkey, Bronze Sculpture After Thierry Van Rijswijck"
Monkey, bronze sculpture by Thierry Van Rijswijck (1911-1958).
Thierry Van Rijswijck was born in 1911 in Antwerp. He was trained at the Academy of Antwerp in the workshop of Josué Dupon, who was a close friend of Rembrandt Bugatti. Van Rijswijck retained the importance of observing animals in the zoo and became a recognized animal sculptor, leading him to move to Paris in the 1930s and participate in the art deco boom.
He settled in the south of France after the Second World War, and collaborated with Roger Guérin.
He died in 1958 in a car accident in Vallauris, a center of ceramics that he frequented assiduously.
The bronze that we present is most probably a post-mortem casting.
