Victor Paillard was the son of Charles Paillard, a small landowner, and Denise Louise Victoire de Chaumont.
While staying with his sister, Mrs. Baudin in By-Thomery (Seine-et-Marne), his artistic talents were noticed by the Count of Guzmán[Which one?], who sent him to Paris to further his training.
After attending the École royale gratuite de dessin and training as a chaser, he became a student of Jean-François Denière and a collaborator of Ferdinand Barbedienne. Quickly recognized as one of the finest bronze casters of his time, he founded an art and furniture studio around 1830 that would employ as many as a hundred people by the mid-19th century. He received numerous official commissions, notably for the decoration of the Foreign Minister’s residence on the Quai d’Orsay in Paris.
Exhibiting in France and abroad, he was appointed a member of the jury for the 1855 World’s Fair in Paris and exhibited outside the competition.
