St. Francis Of Paola - By A Follower Of Francesco Fracanzano (1612–1656)

From the circle of Francesco Fracanzano (Monopoli, 1612 – Naples, 1656)

Excellent condition
The painting depicts St. Anthony of Paola, one of the most venerated saints in Southern Italy, captured in a moment of great intensity. His gaze is directed upward toward a light bearing the inscription “CHARITAS.” The face of the hermit saint is rendered with excellent brushwork—precise and vigorous—that brings this charismatic figure to life. The artist is a prominent exponent of the 17th-century Neapolitan school, an artistic movement distinguished by its portraiture of religious figures in markedly sacred tones. In particular, there are several similarities with the works of Francesco Fracanzano (Monopoli, 1612 – Naples, 1656).
