A splendid late 16th-century painting depicting the Madonna and Child surrounded by three charming little angels.

A very interesting painting featuring a subject so dear to the great masters of ancient painting.
The scene is truly delightful, set against a backdrop of infinite tenderness and serenity
The Virgin’s maternal gaze, as the central figure of the painting, descends toward her Son in a gesture brimming with love. The three little angels smile joyfully, reassured by the Virgin’s protective presence.
It is an allegorical image of “Charity,” depicted through the maternal figure who bestows her love not only upon her own Son but also upon other children in need. The theme is depicted here in a particularly refined manner, with a very balanced, perfectly symmetrical composition, in which the main figures completely fill the canvas, illuminated from the front and standing out clearly against the dark background.
The work conveys positive feelings, and the Christian message is evident.
The solemn stillness—a far cry from exuberant Baroque depictions—and the joyful atmosphere, in contrast to the severity of Northern European artists, belong to the canons of 16th-century Italian painting, with particular reference to the pictorial and chromatic characteristics of the 16th-century Romagna school.
The scene, in addition to being particularly pleasing, is joyful and full of positive symbols, clearly suited for domestic devotion and was undoubtedly commissioned for this purpose.
